Summary: | A volume conductor model is used to determine the magnetic field associated with a propagating action potential in an isolated nerve axon. Both the forward problem of calculating the magnetic field from the transmembrane potential and the inverse problem of calculating the transmembrane potential from the magnetic field are examined. The dependence of the model on all parameters is investigated, and the model is used to study both the axial current in the axon and the ionic current through the axon membrane. |
