Summary: | Manpower and training needs in environmental and occupational health continue to be substantial in many countries of the Asia-Pacific region. The demand, however, is often limited by the lack of political will and infrastructure. In many countries of the region, environmental and occupational health rank low on the list of national priorities. Meanwhile, it is suggested that the integration of environmental and occupational health into the training of other health care professionals, engineers and managers would advance the cause of environmental and occupational health in the region. The training of these professionals can best be accomplished through regional cooperation. It is suggested that the Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH) may be used both as a model and vehicle for countnes of the region to assist each other in manpower training and development. |
