Summary:The traditional approach to analysis of toxic substances in the Great Lakes has been the employment of analytical chemistry to measure chemical concentrations. Wildlife biology has broadened the analysis by incorporating epidemiological studies of effects on fish and wildlife in these ecosystems. The variations in approaches between toxicologists and biologists have yielded different results and often conflicting positions about risks. Ultimately, scientific methodology should be used to ensure the accuracy of toxicology studies.
