Summary: | The viability of seeds in the topsoil under nine Australian cattle paddocks was investigated. The paddocks had been occupied for eleven years prior to the study. Both legume-grass and nitrogen-fertilized S. sphacelata pastures were included in the experiment. Seed viability was found to vary with cattle stocking rate and with pasture type. The viability of seeds from cattle feces was also measured. Feces seed content was highest during summer and fall. |
