Summary:The acoustic properties of the material of solid-rolled railroad wheel rims are investigated. The results of the assessment of the intrinsic anisotropy of the material are reported. An analytical expression for calculation of the residual mechanical stresses in a rim that considers the effect of the material’s intrinsic anisotropy is obtained. A method for the ultrasonic testing of the distribution of the residual stresses is proposed. The results of the experimental investigation and practical application of the method at iron-and-steel plants are given.
