Summary: | As a result of the Dutch Environmental Outlooks, which were published in 1988 and 1991 to assess the future environmental impacts of policy changes, the EXPECT modeling system was developed. The system is based on the simplification and linking of models of the effects of acidifying emissions on acid deposition and its effects on soils, forests, and heathlands. The ten modules of the EXPECT system are simplified models derived from the detailed process models for air transport, soil acidification, effects on forest growth, and effects on heathland ecosystems. The methods employed to create the simplified models are described, along with the problems encountered. |
