Description
Summary:The benthic fauna in the Turkey Lakes system, which consisted of a series of four lakes with a pH ranging from 5.4 to 7.0, were studied. They could tolerate a wide range of pH, and no significant changes were found in the abundance, diversity, or number of taxa present in the open lake and littoral zones. The biomass of the littoral fauna was significantly increased in the lakes with lower pH. This might be due to an increase in the large littoral species which were normally susceptible to fish predation.
