Summary: | A separation technique based upon gas capillary technology was used to examine the presence and relative concentration of 74 PCB congeners in water and caddisfly larvae from three sites in the Hudson river. Congeners of the more chlorinated Aroclors, unlike congeners of Aroclors 1221 and 1242, did not vary greatly from site to site. The concentration of predominant congeners was also measured in other macroinvertebrate species, provided they occurred at more than one site and yielded a sufficient sample for analysis. The estimated bioaccumulation factors demonstrated selective uptake of different congeners by the various species. |
