Summary: | The government of Australia has come to favor natural resource management strategies based on the integration of community stakeholder views, technical knowledge, and organizational structure and policy objectives. This evolving resource management paradigm encourages a higher degree of flexibility and adaptability in coping with uncertainties, complexities, and issues of interconnectedness typically found with natural resource and human management schemes. Issues that should be addressed in assessments of integrated resource management (IRM) projects in Australia and elsewhere are examined. A conceptual evaluation framework is proposed for the identification of important technical, institutional, economic, and social factors in IRM projects. |
