Description
Summary:Tree swallow Tachyineta bicolor eggs and nestlings were collected at three sites along the shoreline of Pool 15 on the upper Mississippi River, and concentrations of organochlorine compounds were measured. One collection site was used as an upriver reference location. Results showed that total PCBs in eggs were similar to levels present at reference sites and significantly lower than levels found at PCB-contaminated sites in Green Bay. TCDD and TCDF concentrations in eggs ranged O.012 0.026 and 0.14 0.22 ng/g, respectively. The mean organochlorine compound concentrations in nestlings were at or near background levels and did not vary between locations.
