Description
Summary:Before the flooding of the High Dam, the Saad el Ali near Aswan, a great international campaign was started in 1959 to save the monument of Nubia - a remarkable cooperation between Egypt, Sudan and about 20 other countries. This unique action will be remembered for ever for its assumption of common responsibility towards the past, to preserve the greatest treasures of the world's heritage. Meanwhile, more and more discoveries about the Nubian culture have been made, and it is necessary to find a suitable place to house them. The location of the Nubia Museum of Aswan has finally been determined, and all participants in the project are well aware of the fact that the structure of such a museum should be in perfect harmony with the landscape and its rich cultural background. It was agreed that this could best be achieved by early cooperation with experienced landscape architects.
