Summary: | Effluent from the Elazig treatment facility in Turkey is discharged to Keban Dam Lake, and the sludge is used as a fertilizer. In this study, sludge and effluent samples were collected and analyzed for the presence of lead, chromium, nickel, and cadmium. The overall removal of Cr in the treatment plant was determined to be 88%, while the removals of Pb, Ni, and Cd were 90.4, 89.0, and 50.0%, respectively. The amounts of Pb, Cr, Ni, and Cd entering the lake from the discharge of treated effluents were calculated at 62.0, 62.0, 193.8, and 387.9 kg/yr, respectively. The sludge disposed on land was found to contain high concentrations of Cr, Ni, and Pb, at 41.0, 30.0, and 11.6 mg/kg, respectively. |
