Summary: | Community wildlife management in the Izozog region of the Bolivian Chaco was initiated with self-monitoring of hunting and participation in field research on key game species. Community meetings have identified and addressed seven wildlife management recommendations: establishing hunting zones; targeting only adult wildlife; targeting only males in the reproductive season; targeting only abundant species; protecting key forage and habitat species; and prohibiting hunting by those outside the community. Community attitudes toward these recommendations are compared and found to differ with respect to hunting adults and males only. Most communities are not in favor of restricting hunting only to abundant species. |
