Barrow Utilities and Electric Coop Inc. (BUECI) operan el sistema municipal más nórdico de tratamiento de agua potable de los Estados Unidos. Usando una planta de desalinación con un sistema de pretratamiento complejo para corregir problemas de calidad de agua bajo constreñimientos ambientales severos, BUECI provee para el tratamiento y distribución de agua potable en la comunidad árctica de Barrow, Alaska.
