Summary: | Fluorescence, UV, and infrared spectra were use to examine photodegradation of 17 alpha -ethynylestradiol (EE2) in aqueous solutions induced by UV light. EE2 in aqueous solution was photodegraded under irradiation with a UV disinfection lamp but photodegradation was not observed under a high pressure mercury lamp. Photodegradation of 1.6-2.0 mg/l EE2 in aqueous solution at an initial pH of 6.8 was pseudo-first order reaction, and increasing the initial EE2 concentration reduced the photodegradation rate. |
