Summary: | In many developing countries, pulp bleaching operations are carried out using elemental chlorine and chlorine compounds. Findings are reported from tests investigating the bleaching of eucalyptus pulp using chlorine, hypochlorite, and chlorine dioxide. The project sought to identify the diverse organochlorine compounds produced in the bleach effluents in the different stages of the treatment system. Scientists also examined the molecular weight distribution of macromolecules present in bleach effluents at diverse stages of the treatment process. |
