Summary: | Studies addressed the adrenal functions in rats treated with different dosages of lead. Four groups of rats received daily injections of 1, 2, 4, or 6 mg/kg Pb acetate, respectively, over a period of 30 days. Blood and adrenal levels of Pb were significantly higher in animals receiving the higher doses. Significant decreases in adrenal cholesterol and ascorbic acid levels were observed in the groups receiving the two lowest doses. Cytometric findings indicated that the widths of each of the three adrenal cortical zones decreased in groups two, three, and four. |
