Summary: | Spatial and temporal variability of nitrous oxide (N sub(2)O) emissions from the agricultural soils of Belgium, was analyzed. Annual N sub(2)O emission rates were estimated with two statistical models namely, MCROPS, and MGRASS. The models were used to simulate the temporal trend of N sub(2)O emissions between 1990 and 2050 for 10' latitude and longitude. Changes in climatic and land use were derived from the quantitative scenarios developed by the ATEAM project based on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change-Special Report on Emissions Scenarios (IPCC-SRES) storylines. The scenario-based simulations of future N sub(2)O emissions showed the strong influence of land-use change. The results concluded that care should be taken when applying the models to generalized database over large geographic areas. |
