Description
Summary:Various aspects related to water exchange between a discharge region and the open sea are assessed. Water exchange of the coastal zone varies both in time and space. The methods used to trace water movements are: passive tracers and Lagrangian trajectories. The numerical 3D model used is based on the basic set of primitive hydrodynamical equations together with the equation of state formulation. The results show that the tracer concentration can be directly compared with trajectory particle concentration. The trajectory are calculated off-line, that is, from the already calculated and stored averaged velocity fields over a longer time step. It is concluded that the tracer is integrated as a scalar simultaneously within the circulation model with the same time step.
