Summary: | The effect of elevated root-zone (RZ) carbon dioxide (CO sub(2)) on photosynthesis and productivity of lettuce plants from midday depression of photosynthesis was estimated. All measurements of chlorophyll fluorescence were made with the Plant Efficiency Analyzer (PEA). At the end of the elevated RZ, CO sub(2) treatment plants were harvested and oven dried at 80 degree C for 2 days and analyses of biomass of shoots and roots were carried out. Leaf expansions of the elevated RZ CO sub(2) plants were faster than that of control plants. There were no significant differences in leaf areas, when the roots of plants were exposed to elevated CO sub(2) of 10,000 and 50,000 ppm and they were much greater than those plants exposed to elevated RZ CO sub(2) of 2000 ppm. |
