Summary: | ORV riding is a popular activity in the United States,3 but it poses significant risks of preventable injury and death among children.3, 4 The purpose of this study is to compare injury patterns and outcomes among eques- trian (one horsepower) and ORV (multiple horsepower) trauma in the pediatric population. Horse-riding injuries tend to be severe and are par- ticularly common among females.1, 2 Every 1-point increase in Injury Severity Score extends the hospital LOS by a day.2 Injury Severity Scores for the horse group appear higher than previously reported.1, 4 Al- though the injury patterns and severity among horse and ORV groups were similar, variables in our study demonstrate just how severe ORV trauma can be for the pediatric population. |
