Summary:There is substantial interspecific variation in chromosomal NORs among North American cyprinid fishes. This variation is taxonomically informative. In addition, the chromosomal NOR database appears to provide a framework from which systematic or phylogenetic inferences can be made. The present approach to making such inferences from chromosomal NOR data is discussed.
