Summary:Research recently conducted at the Max Planck Inst, Garching, West Germany, failed to reproduce the cold fusion phenomena claimed to have been realized by some US researchers. Three electrolytic cell experiments were conducted using palladium cathodes and platinum anodes in a 0.1 M solution of lithium deuteride in heavy water without any signs of neutrons, tritium, or gamma emissions above background levels. Similar results were documented for a 21-d trial that attempted to duplicate the large melting incident reported by the US scientists.
