Description
Summary:Atmospheric particles were collected in six rural Venezuelan savannah sites during 1984-85. Concentrations and size distributions of nitrate, sulfate, chloride, phosphate, ammonia, sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium ions were determined. Concentrations were higher in the dry season, with a maximum during vegetation burning periods. Using Na as a reference, the results show a deficit of chloride ion and, with the exception of Mg, an enrichment of all other ions with respect to marine aerosols. Various pairs of ions displayed similar size distributions, indicating the ions were produced by the same source and/or were involved in similar atmospheric processes.
