Description
Summary:Good health care has made a significant contribution to improving longevity and functioning in later life. In this chapter we discuss systematic approaches to assessing the receipt of evidence-based prevention and treatment for the common conditions of aging. In the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA), at each wave, participants were asked questions regarding their receipt of specific items of care for conditions including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, osteoarthritis, falls, incontinence, and depression. Self-reported receipt of good quality care was mixed, with evidence of poorer care for the conditions associated with frailty. There remains much scope to improve care quality and thereby prevent premature loss of functioning and mortality in later life. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
