Summary: | The levels of organochlorine insecticides which have accumulated in the soils of the Cudgen-Duranbah plateau, an important vegetable and fruit production area, are reported. Soils from 20 different sites were analyzed for heptachlor, heptachlor epoxide, chlordane, aldrin, dieldrin, BHC, DDT, DDE, and TDE. No residues of cyclodiene insecticides or BHC were detected. DDT was present in all of the samples at levels which averaged 0.39 ppm. In general, organochlorine pesticide levels in Cudgen-Duranbah soils were lower than those reported for soils used for similar purposes elsewhere. |
