Summary: | To date, three species of fiddler crab genus Uca have been recorded from the Red Sea: Uca (Thalassuca) tetragonon (Herbst, 1790), U. (Celuca) lactea albimana (Kossmann, 1877) and U. (Amphiuca) inversa inversa (Hoffman, 1874) (see Lewinsohn, 1979). In the course of a recent survey of the southern Red Sea coast, a number of specimens of a fourth species, Uca (Deltuca) urvillei (H. Milne Edwards, 1852) were collected, during October 1984, at the following locations: Shi'b Abu Al Liqa, 17 degree 27'08"N 42 degree 17'16"E, Sawarmah, 16 degree 40'13"N 42 degree 43'41"E, and Oreste Point, 16 degree 23'11"N 42 degree 46'08"E. |
