Description
Summary:The purpose of this study was to identify factors important to wellwater contamination associated with onsite wastewater disposal systems. The study site is a mountainous portion of Jefferson County, west of Denver, Colo. Contamination of well waters was indicated by concentration of nitrates and coliform bacteria in excess of the Environmental Protection Agency's drinking water standards. Statistical analysis of the wellwater data in this study indicate that a well protective distance of 100 ft. has a probability of nitrate-nitrogen contamination of 21.8%; whereas, a 200 ft. distance has a probability of nitrate-nitrogen contamination of 9.4%.
