Summary: | The only attractant pheromone identified for a plant-feeding heteropteran is that of the southern green stink bug Nezara viridula , a species native to the Ethiopian Region but now cosmopolitan in distribution. The pheromone released by males of this Nezara species differs somewhat between Brazilian and North American populations suggesting that pheromone strains exist for this worldwide pest. The authors now confirm that pheromone strains of N. viridula do exist and report that green stink bug males from the sister genus Acrosternum emit bouquets comprised of distinctive ratios of the same sesquiterpenes as in N. viridula . |
