Summary: | The considerable differences in the growth properties on ten strains of Spirulina platensis and eight strains of S. maxima justify the opinion that there is considerable potential for strain improvement through selection. The outdoor mass culture of Spirulina in seawater is technically feasible without any pretreatment. However, several physiological aspects of the growth of Spirulina in seawater remain to be clarified in order to derive the best benefits from this opportunity. |
