Description
Summary:Since, variety of morphologies is reported for nano zinc oxide (ZnO), few of those which are useful for applications, are analyzed here with reference to optical properties. Nanoparticles, nanorods and chunk-shaped nanostructures are grown and these growth mechanisms were discussed in detail. The chemical compositions and vibration modes were analyzed by FTIR. UV–vis and PL characterization were also analyzed. The Verdet constants, obtained from the Faraday rotation of polarized light for all synthesized nanostructures, show distinct behavior of the above ZnO nanostructures. •Nanorod and chunk-shaped nano ZnO synthesized by varying precursor/reaction agent.•The growth mechanism was discussed for varieties of ZnO morphologies.•The Verdet constants were measured from the Faraday rotation method for ZnO nanostructures.•The optical responses were analyzed by FTIR, UV–vis, and PL spectra.
