Description
Summary:The effects of applying the herbicide fluridone to ecosystems supporting fish were investigated. The persistence of fluridone in water, its bioconcentration in carp (Cyprinus carpio L.), and effects on the plankton and on physicochemical parameters were studied in a man-made pond in northern Greece. Fluridone levels decreased rapidly to values below detection limits by the 60th day after application. Fluridone residues in edible parts of fish reached 484 ug per kg on the 13th day before decreasing steadily to 30.7 ug per kg on the 84th day after application. No pathological or histological features were observed in fish, and no fluridone metabolite was found in any fish sample.
