Summary: | The authors examined effector mechanisms of allograft destruction in a canine single-lung transplantation model. Intragraft effector cells were obtained from the transplanted lung by bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL). Cells were also studied from BAL fluid of the normal lung and peripheral blood. Intragraft CTL activity was quantified in standard super(51)Cr-release assays against donor lymphocytes. To measure DTH reactions they used a lectin (concanavalin A, (Con A)-dependent cell mediated-cytotoxicity assay (CDCMC), which is known to detect CTL and interleukin-2 (I1-2)-activated killer cells, IAK (also known as lymphokine-activated killer cells, LAK), but not natural killer cells (NK). |
