Summary: | The release of ions and the weathering characteristics of fly ash from a coal-fired power station in Canada have been determined in a two-year, continuous leaching experiment. The results indicate that the initial ion release characteristics are dependent on the nature and quantity of admixed and surface-adsorbed inorganic salts. As these salts are solubilized and removed from the ash, soluble constituents released by chemical alteration of the glassy matrix are maintained at relatively low levels . |
