Description
Summary:Giving continuity to the study of species of Taeniaptera that occur in central Amazonia, T. albitarsis (Enderlein, 1922); T. tarsata (Wiedemann, 1830) and T. tibialis (Macquart, 1843) are redescribed. These species constitute a group characterized by: posterior cell of the wing open and fifth male sternite without basal apophyses. The criteria for identification and separation of species agree with Albuquerque (1980). For actual recognition of the genus, its geographical distribution is confined to the American tropics. Two new species are described, T. aliceae and T. inpai .
