Description
Summary:(1) Sulphur deposition in rainfall and throughfalls was measured over 2 yr at weekly intervals at a heathland site and under Pinus sylvestris and Betula pendula canopies. The pH of the rainfall and throughfalls was also measured for 13 weeks. (2) Sulphur concentrations in the throughfalls were generally higher than in the rainfall but actual annual amounts of sulphur reaching the forest floor were similar to those in the heathland. (3) The pH of the throughfalls was reduced below that of rainfall but there was no evidence that this was due to the washing off of adsorbed sulphate.
