Description
Summary:The excavation campaign of 2012 on the site of Orikos conducted by an Albanian-Swiss team discovered an unusual monument. The paper deals with this modest but singular building with no parallel in the Greek world. With a square plan and a single course of blocks, the building has no walls but 12 columns supporting a roof. The principle of this construction is very similar to that of a monopteros temple, as a building without walls. However, despite this similarity, all the monopteroi known in the Greek and Roman world are circular or rectangular, not square. The aim of this article is to present this monument and to discuss its identification and function. [Publication Abstract]
