Summary: | A MSF desalination plant was provided as an auxiliary unit at Abu-Kammash Chemical Complex to meet the demand of process water and domestic water supply of the town. The plant with a nominal capacity of 100 m
3/h, has 29 stages (24 heat recovery stages, 4 heat rejection stages and 1 degassing stage) and is in operation sine 1981. Though working at slightly under capacity operation, the overall performance of the plant is quite satisfactory. Over the period of operation, the actual thermal performance of the plant fairly matches with the design conditions. Incrustation of the heat transfer surfaces is kept under control by using antiscalent along with a antifoam agent. It is observed that except for the brine heaters, the scale problems are insignificant and the requirements of acid cleaning are infrequent. However, the variations in the performance ratios clearly indicate the effect of aging of the plant. |
