Summary:The present document provides realistic ethical principles based on current knowledge and techniques in molecular genetics. As there is no way of knowing when the HD gene will be identified, and the predictive linkage test is currently in use in an increasing number of centers, it is appropriate to provide these guidelines to govern the application of the predictive test. The test should only be offered if all the recommended provisions are available.
