Description
Summary:The reflected‐field impulse response for a plane wave obliquely incident on a lossy plasma half space is determined analytically by the inversion of the frequency‐domain reflection coefficient. Both TE and TM incident field polarizations are considered. The resulting expressions involve simple functions and, at most, one or two convolutions of these functions. The simplicity of the expressions allows the temporal behavior of the reflected field to be predicted on the basis of the physical parameters of the plasma. The expressions are validated numerically by comparison to the inverse fast Fourier transform of the frequency‐domain reflection coefficient. A comparison to the response of a laboratory plasma shows good agreement.
