Summary: | Irrigated soil water and sediments were collected between 1989 and 1990 from sites in Russia and Uzbekistan (Moscow, Kuban and Samarkand) and analysed for organochlorine compounds. Data is presented for each of 5 river valleys in the Moscow region; for 5 crops and plantations and 4 water bodies in the Kuban low plain and for 4 crops and plantations in the Samarkand oasis. Mean concentrations of total DDT for the Moscow region, Kuban low plain and the Samarkand oasis were 164.8, 197.7 and 275.1 ug per kg, respectively. Mean concentrations of total PCB were 92.0, 258.9 and 28.1 ug per kg, respectively. PCB were widespread but DDT predominated. |
