Summary: | In order to develop an environmentally friendly polymer, a novel superabsorbent composite (SAC) was prepared by graft copolymerization of acrylic acid (AA) onto xanthan gum (XG) and then hybridization with organic montmorillonite (OMMT) by hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide. The characterization of the SAC was confirmed by FTIR, SEM and DSC. Moreover, the water-retention characteristics of the composite were further studied. The results showed that the synthesized composite effectively increased the water-retention capacity. Therefore, this new composite could be considered as an excellent candidate for various industrial applications. |
