Summary: | A process for preparing an epoxy-containing film-forming latex via emulsion copolymerization of isoprene and 1,2-epoxypropylmethacrylate has been developed. The exposure of this latex to thiocarbamide has yielded an episulfide-containing copolymer. Regardless of the composition of the copolymer, 30–33% of the epoxy groups are converted into episulfide groups. The epoxy- and episulfide-containing copolymers exhibit high chemical stability, improved strength of adhesion to various materials, and crack resistance. |
