Growth of Schizosaccharomyces sp. HL on supernatant from anaerobically fermented pig waste: effects of VFA concentration and pH
Schizosaccharomyces sp. HL utilized almost all of the volatile fatty acids (VFA) up to concentrations of 9.3 g/1 in the surface culture using supernatant from anaerobically fermented pig waste as medium. The maximum yield of dry matter (DM) was 5.8 g/1 in the optimum conditions of 9.3 g/1 VFA, pH 5....

Summary: | Schizosaccharomyces sp. HL utilized almost all of the volatile fatty acids (VFA) up to concentrations of 9.3 g/1 in the surface culture using supernatant from anaerobically fermented pig waste as medium. The maximum yield of dry matter (DM) was 5.8 g/1 in the optimum conditions of 9.3 g/1 VFA, pH 5.1 and 29 degree C. Lowering of pH was required to obtain the maximum yield of yeast DM, and the optimum pH value rose as the VFA concentration increased. Preliminery experiments using broiler suggested that this organism had a potential value as a fodder yeast. |
