Summary: | This paper is concerned with the synthesis and evaluation of some 1:2 iron complexed formazan dyes for use on wool and nylon. The chemical structures of these new dyes were confirmed with the aid of negative ion FAB mass spectrometry, a technique which also proved instrumental in establishing the nature of the products obtained when unsymmetrical 1:2 iron complexed formazan dyes were synthetic targets. It is clear from the fastness properties obtained that certain of the title compounds could have utility in applications requiring high lightfastness. |
