Summary: | The applicability of adenylate energy charge (AEC) as a measure of stress in mussels treated with contaminated sediments collected from Long Island Sound has been studied. The contaminated sediments contained polychlorinated biphenyls, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and heavy metals such as chromium and copper. The results indicate that AEC values were correlated to contaminated sediment exposure, with lower values obtained for increasing exposures. The reproducibility of the tests was found to be good. |
