Description
Summary:This paper considers the issues associated with the operation of wind energy systems which are situated in areas remote from a strong grid. System stability can be improved by addition of energy storage. Fluctuations due to the gusting effect of the wind can be most effectively reduced by using a flywheel energy storage system. Alternative ways of introducing flywheel energy storage into the power system are discussed.
