The level of a mRNA with sequence similarity to the old yellow enzyme-NADPH dehydrogenase increases in Chenopodium rubrum cells in response to cytokinin

Stationary-phase cells of Chenopodium rubrum were treated with t-zeatin riboside for 2 h, and the pattern of gene expression in both treated and non-treated cells was examined by differential display of mRNA. Description
Summary:Stationary-phase cells of Chenopodium rubrum were treated with t-zeatin riboside for 2 h, and the pattern of gene expression in both treated and non-treated cells was examined by differential display of mRNA. Based on this screen, we isolated a cDNA clone whose corresponding mRNA level increased upon cytokinin treatment. Northern blot analysis confirmed that expression of this mRNA was induced by t-zeatin riboside. The amino acid sequence deduced from the partial cDNA showed a high level of similarity to the corresponding amino acid sequence of the old yellow enzyme-NADPH dehydrogenases of fungi.
