Description
Summary:Several papers reporting on research of biological nutrient removal (BNR) process modeling were published last year. Gujer et al. (1995) extended the International Association on Water Quality (IAWQ) Activated Sludge Model 1 (ASM1) for carbon and nitrogen removal to include the modeling of biological phosphorus removal. The resulting Activated Sludge Model 2 (ASM2) included 17 processes and 17 components. Typical values of its 40 kinetic parameters were listed, although they have not been verified from experimental data. In a companion paper, procedures for wastewater and biomass characterization for use with ASM2 have been presented (Henze et al., 1995).
