Summary: | The desk takes electronic input (e.g., from a microphone or a CD player), processes that signal using electronic circuitry (capacitors, resistors, etc.), and sends the signal out to other devices as electric voltage. Digital consoles often feature flexible and multi-purpose tactile interfaces-feders, knobs, buttons, etc Unlike an analog console, on which each fader, knob, and button performs a single purpose, a control element on a digital console may control any number of parameters depending upon the manufacturer's design or the user's preference. All of this power and flexibility needs to be balanced with a sense of familiarity and flow-as console manufacturers know their users have decades of training in one style of interface, and the demands of the job are fast. |
